About

Alison uses she/her pronouns.

Alison Lietzenmayer is a dedicated Communication instructor currently focused in organizational communication and instructional communication scholarship and training. She has partnered with leading scholars to support research in family communication and work-life communication topics. Alison is an expert at integrating theory into practical and actionable training. She is a passionate advocate of intersectional activism and community mutual aid.

Alison grew up in Virginia Beach, VA and lived throughout Hampton Roads, VA before moving to Seattle, WA. She’s a world traveler (that actually hates to fly) but enjoys exploring and always travels with sunscreen. Always up for kayaking or boating, Alison can sometimes be convinced to go hiking. If it's live music or sports related- she's in. Alison is always ready to catch a baseball game (Go Mariners!) or a concert, or try a new brewery.

"Above and Beyond", facilitated by Alison Lietzenmayer was my favorite session because it incorporated sociological and feminist concepts in regards to how we communicate our talents and skills online and in every day life. So many of us could relate to downplaying ourselves in resumes, online, or in interviews to avoid negative perceptions. Through authentic, interactive coaching Alison guided us to make human centered connections between our personal and professional identities through an online, ePortfolio environment.

Pedagogy in Practice

Alison joins Tim Hackman and Kristal Kinloch-Taylor for an early recording of Pedagogy in Practice, a new podcast series at ODU. Listen as they talk about what inspires good teaching, how to build an inclusive learning environment in online learning, and analyzing teaching tools.

"Pedagogy in Practice promotes faculty belonging by uniting faculty in conversations about teaching. Faculty will join the podcasts to discuss their own innovative teaching practices. Dean of University Libraries, Timothy Hackman, and CFD Educational Program Developer, Kristal Kinloch-Taylor, are the podcast cohosts and will moderate and lead the conversations with faculty."

Episodes will launch in March 2025.
